ART AND HEALING

Chronic diseases are a nationwide burden, with cardiovascular disease being the leading cause of death during the past century and the incidence of diabetes continuing to increase with depression not lagging far behind.

Healing through Art can show you that life can be way beautiful than before. Our interaction with art is a break from our daily routine to focus on the uniqueness and portray on our remarkable creativity.

Research in the area of art and healing determined that creative therapies like music engagement, visual arts therapy, movement-based creative expression, and expressive writing can reduce the probability of occurrence of such physiological conditions and overall these forms of expression, art modalities and creative processes can foster health.

A growing interest in dance and movement has accompanied recognition of the mind and body benefits of motor activity. Through the movement of mind and body in a creative way, stress and anxiety can be relieved and other health benefits can be achieved as well.

There are clear indications that artistic engagement has significant positive effects on health.

Expressive writing can be defined simply as an exploration of emotions and thoughts through writing. Normally, these thoughts are deep thoughts regarding traumatic or emotional experiences.

Sample instruction :- “For the next four days, I would like you to write your very deepest thoughts and feelings. In your writing, I’d like you to really let go and explore your deepest emotions and thoughts. You might tie your topic to your relationships with others, including parents, lovers, friends or relatives; to your past, your present or your future; or to whom you have been, who you would like to be or who you are now. You may write about the same general issues or your daily experiences. All of your writing will be completely confidential. Don’t worry about spelling, grammar, or sentence structure. The only rule is that once you begin writing, you continue until the time is up.”

“ Visual Arts” is a modern but imprecise umbrella term for a broad category of art which includes a number of artistic disciplines from various sub-categories such as ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, design, crafts, photography, video, filmmaking and architecture.

Art opens the closets, airs out the cellars and attics.
